"Vision becomes reality" - The school building in the Könneritzstraße 47 with its red facade is a landmark from afar. It is a vision of a functional and nurturing environment for the education of students of different nations and cultures coming together in Leipzig. After more than a year of renovation and building works, this vision has finally become reality in October 2007.

The school building is designed to accommodate up to 650 students and serves not only as an educational institution but also as a meeting point for extra-curricular activites that involve students, teachers, parents and even the larger Leipzig community.

Two buildings – old and new
The school complex encompasses two buildings that are very different yet perfectly complement each other. The old building was originally constructed in the 19th century and has now been renovated to accommodate most of the school facilities. It includes a spacious cafeteria in the basement well equipped to cater for the needs of all students. The brand new building next to it encompasses the gymnasium, eight individually decorated hort rooms and –on top of it all - a secure 1000m² roof playground!

Outside area
Much more than a school yard, the architects have created an outside space that serves as a playground, garden, lounge and functional area of the school, all rolled into one.

The fenced outside area is around 5000m² and encompasses separate areas for school students and pre-school children, playing fields, a large sitting area and parking facilities for staff and parents. And if this space is still not sufficient, the school is directly adjacent to the 1.25 km² Clara-Zetkin-Park, Leipzig's largest forested park area.

Information technology
Students at the Leipzig International School are provided with a solid formation in Information Technology. IT facilities include two interconnected computer labs, internet access for all students, a wireless computer network and interactive whiteboards that offer unprecedented possibilities for creative teaching and learning.

The ICT facilities have been financially supported by the MEDIOS programme.

Science
The school has specialist laboratories for Chemistry, Physics and Biology with associated preparatory rooms. In addition, there is a general purpose laboratory for the Junior and Middle School Students.

Sports & Multi-Purpose Hall
Part of the new building is a state of the art fully equipped double gymnasium, which can be used for all kinds of sports activities during the school hours as well as for extra-curricular activities. It can also be turned into a 600-seat multi purpose hall equipped with a multi media system for large school activities, such as the annual graduation ball.

Fine art
A large art studio underneath the roof provides a inspiring environment for students to create and exhibit a wide range of paintings and other art objects. The studio is complemented by a workshop and an atelier for conducting the various art activities offered by the school.

Library
A large, centrally located facility houses the library. It currently stocks over 9.300 English language books for students of all ages, as well as computer terminals with internet access.

Performing arts
The Leipzig International School has a strong tradition in performing arts. A fully renovated auditorium is available for day and evening use, and as a music and drama space, where performances can be practiced and presented. In addition, the school encompasses several music and practice rooms.
