Mathematics

At LIS, the children follow the Mathematics Curriculum based on the Cambridge International Primary Program (CIPP). This detailed framework is based on the primary National Curriculum and the National Numeracy Strategy, which have been implemented in England. But it has been designed specifically for teachers and students in the international context.

The Mathematics Curriculum is organised into six stages. Each stage contains specific teaching targets for one year group within the primary school. At LIS, the Mathematics Curriculum stages begin at Pre-School 3:

Stage 1 = Pre-School 3
Stage 2 = Grade 1
Stage 3 = Grade 2
Stage 4 = Grade 3
Stage 5 = Grade 4
Stage 6 = Grade 5

The Mathematics Curriculum Framework is divided into four strands:

  • Number
    • Numbers and the number system
    • Calculations
    • Mental skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Organising and Using Data
  • Shape, Space and Measures
    • Patterns and properties of shape
    • Properties of position and movement
    • Measures
