At LIS we have one geography unit for each Grade. Each unit lasts about half a year. Each grade has one timetabled 45 minute history or geography lesson a week. However, as all units offer cross-curricular links to many other subjects, the students will often carry on with their study in subjects like English, ICT or Art.
The units are aiming to give the children a better sense of themselves and the wider world in the present and the past.
In Grade 1 students are being introduced to the subject by investigating the local area. In Grades 2 to 5 students look at the wider world and study topics like the weather, water, landscapes and different cultures.
To enhance teaching, students go on fieldtrips, use maps, globes and atlases, photos, a variety of information sources, including the internet.
