We take in students in all grade levels throughout the year.
All applicants are assessed on their English skills upon admission.
From Grade 9 onwards, students have to be able to follow most of the instruction (in English) upon entry in the school.
Applicants for Grades 11-12 have to have practical fluency in English in order to be able to cope with the demanding academic programme.
Students wishing to transfer from a German Gymnasium to LIS need a 2 or better for English on their most recent German report card and pass the English entrance test. The level required depends on the grade applied for, as follows:
| For entry into grade level | Required entry level of English |
| 6, 7, 8 | A2 |
| 9, 10 | B1 |
| 11 | B2 |
The levels A2, B1 and B2 refer to the Common European Framework for Languages. For more information regarding the Common European Framework levels, see:
http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/LanguageSelfAssessmentGrid/en
Applicants need to show that they would be allowed to attend, at their previous school, the grade that they are applying for at LIS. Exceptions to this guideline are at the discretion of the Headmaster and Principal.
The International Baccalaureate programme in Grade 11 and 12 is a great option for German students who passed Gymnasium grade 10 and then took a gap year in an English speaking country (e.g. the US, the UK, or Australia). During their year abroad, they often find that they would like to continue their international education at LIS and most of them do so very successfully.
What we look for in applicants for the IB programme is
A year abroad would meet the second and the third criterium. If you meet these criteria, we hope you will apply!
