Who we are

  • Leipzig International School is a non-profit co-educational day school for students from Pre-School 1 (age 3) to Grade 12.
  • Almost 700 students from 50 countries visit the school, with the most highly represented nations being the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Russia, France, the Netherlands as well as the host country, Germany.
  • The current Headmaster, Roel Scheepens, was appointed in 2009. He is from the Netherlands and has a M.Sc. in Physics as well as an M.A. in Education.
  • The school employs an experienced, well-qualified and highly motivated staff from 13 different nationalities, including the UK, the USA, Australia and Canada.
  • The school is located in Schleußig, a residential district in the western part of Leipzig, adjacent to the green Clara-Zetkin-Park and 10 minutes by public transport to the centre of town.

What we offer

  • The school offers quality education conducted in English. German language classes as well as special programmes for children with little or no English knowledge (up to Grade 8) are provided.
  • A range of extra-curricular activities, such as language courses (Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, French, Portugese), sports activities, music lessons and much more.
  • The school building has been extensively renovated in 2007 and facilities now include a large sports hall, Hort and playground facilities (upgraded in 2010), well-equipped science laboratories, music and art rooms, an international library and computer centres with internet facilities available for all students. The school makes extensive use of state-of-the-art teaching equipment such as interactive whiteboards.

How we work

  • The school year runs from mid-August until the end of June and is divided into two semesters. There is a mid-semester break in October, a winter break in December, a mid-year break in February and a Spring break in April. The school also observes the German national holidays.
  • Supervision facilities for Kindergarten and Grades 1-4 are provided from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The Primary School day begins at 8.30 am and ends at 3.00 pm. In the Secondary School the daily schedule is from 8.15 am to 4:00 pm.
  • The school aims to limit classes to twenty students each. For many specialist classes the numbers will be much less than this.
